Black Hawk Down ……..Black Hawk Down ……..Only In This Case It’s Not A Rebel Force That Have The Hawks On The Run ………..

The NBA Playoff series between the Atlanta Hawks and the Milwaukee Bucks might well be one the more entertaining and quite possibly one of the most enthralling series’ playoffs in the postseason. Never mind the fact that you have the number the three seeded Eastern Conference Hawks on the brink of elimination , down 3-2 to the Bucks in this series . Do you get the impression that we may well be witnessing one of the more astonishing upsets and surprises of this NBA postseason ?

If any of you have seen the the , Ridley Scott directed war drama ‘Black Hawk Down’ (2001). Then you’ll know the background to what was an actual fact based situation that took place in Mogadishu , Somalia. The events surrounding the US military’s plight in the country led many to believe that their involvement there was badly timed and to an extent unwarranted. But given the fact that American citizens’ lives were at risk in the civil war torn country the actions taken by the Clinton administration at the time were understandable. However the loss of so many US Marine lives was never envisaged against what was deemed to be at the time a bunch merely well armed rabble rousers. Unfortunately the US underestimated the Somali militia’s intent and that of the warlord’s leadership at the time.

The case can be made here that the Atlanta Hawks led by their coach Mike Woodson and his coaching staff have simply underestimated the resolve and coaching ability of the Bucks’ Scott Skiles and his staff . Led by rookie sensation Brandon Jennings and his main partner in crime John Salmons . The Milwaukee Bucks have made this postseason appearance “an almighty nightmare” for the Atlanta Hawks. Needing now, but one more win to dispatch the third seeded Hawks out of the playoffs. What looked to have been something of a cake walk of an appearance has become anything but that. And instead of lives being lost it has actually been the reputations of players such as Joe Johnson , Mike Bibby , Al Horford , Josh Smith , Jason Collins and the entire roster that is now on the cusp being laid bare in tatters.

Hawks’ fans are no doubt dejected to know that what they may well have deemed to be a promising season is now essentially looking to be something of an aberration. Never mind the support shown for the team at Phillips Arena , Atlanta , will now essentially become something of an elephant’s graveyard should they bow out of the series . The startling thing is , given the confidence now being shown by the Milwaukee Bucks it would be somewhat naive for the Orlando Magic to think that should they face this Bucks’ team in the conference semi-finals , their task will be made all the more easier because of the Bucks’ lack of postseason inexperience. If anything the pressure will be “amped up and will be squarely placed on the shoulders of this Stan Van Gundy coached team to prove their worth. And nowhere will that pressure be more felt , than upon the large frame and shoulders of Dwight Howard , the team’s best player. His postseason travails have been well documented , given his lack of maturity and continuous foul problems. They may well have dispatched and overwhelmed a Bobcats’ team that was simply there , making their owner Michael Jordan proud. Never mind that it also once again added to the legitimacy and claim that Larry Brown is one hell of coach who can literally turn water into wine !

My God, almost everywhere Larry Brown has been over the course of his illustrious NBA career , he has turned an NBA franchise around. OK , we can all attest to his failings with the New York Knicks . But look at who he had to deal with apart of from the bunch “misfits” and “malcontents” on the roster ? Isiah Thomas and James L. Dolan were hardly what one would deem to be the “epitome” of ” success” and “ambition” from an executive standpoint !

Now , if the Hawks are to “play themselves back into this series”, then Horford , Johnson and Smith will have to lead by example. And not only that but Mike Woodson had better get up off his ass and start to prove his worth as a coach . His opposite number in Scott Skiles has simply made Brown look like a novice throughout much of this series .

Over in the Western Conference I’m hoping that the San Antonio Spurs can close out their series against the Dallas Mavericks . I’ve put myself out on the line by stating in print that if the San Antonio Spurs lose the series . Then I’m prepared to give up sex for six months ! Sportschump is even now holding me to that claim. And this case I will most definitely be a man of my word. If you’ve served in the military and especially as a Marine , then you’ll know that their word is their bond ! In my case it’s the British Royal Marines and I’m proud to have served in that context ! Unfortunately , for the girlfriend that may well mean her buying some size D batteries and making use of a certain vibrating sexual device. It’s the “pleasure principle” as Janet Jackson so aptly says ! I wonder how she’s doing since her split with Jermaine Dupri ? Any bets to be taken that she’ll have someone at her side within the next 6 to 8 months ?

Movie trailer for “Black Hawk Down”

Simply put, I hate that ingrate Mark Cuban and his antics not primarily as an owner but also in his guise as an alleged businessman and entrepreneur. Having gotten off on insider trader charges, knowing full well the information obtained was done so surreptitiously and illegally , he went full steam ahead with his business dealings. But then again I ought to be apportioning blame also upon the Justice Dept and SEC (Securities & Exchange Commission) for their piss poor handling of not only the indictment but the case also. But then again , these two governmental agencies have been about as proactive in going after the “big wigs” on Wall St who’ve essentially led about the almost cataclysmic demise of US economy. Never mind what has taken place within the banking and financial mortgage industry. Still feel that your money is safe within a bank even if it’s federally insured courtesy of the FDIC ? As good as that specific governmental concern has been they’ve still had to shut down over 260 financial institutions within the last four years.

With game six of the series to be played at the AT&T Center in San Antonio , Texas. This Gregg Popovich coached team knows that with this being its chance to close out the series clinically, with a victory. All that is required of them is to “deal the decisive blow” in tonight’s game . There’s no real margin for error at this juncture, at all ! Better to win the “series” 4-2 rather than having to be forced to a game seven back in Dallas ! .

But on the face of it would you really deem it an upset to begin with , knowing what you know about their opponents ? Chime in with a comment on the topic and as usual thanks in advance for the continued support. It’s greatly appreciated !

How Do You Stay Fit ?

How Do You Stay Fit ?

Given the state of play and the fact that“physical recreation” is now being taken out of many school systems ? I’m wondering what your thoughts are on this sensitive matter ? Never mind the fact that the education system seems to be going to hell in a hand basket !

Today I spent with a neighbor as we headed to the local gun range to get off a few rounds just to get the endorphins going. But while I enjoyed myself at the range it certainly doesn’t beat the workout I’d normally get when I hit the my local gym and spar with several friends in the ring or octagon. As many of you know that while I love the sport of boxing . Of late I’ve gotten heavily into the genre of mixed martial arts. An avowed martial arts fanatic , with regard to karate and tae-kwondo. The more I get into working out via this format the more I enjoy the regimen of using this as a form of staying fit.

As such I wondering what if anything gives you “a high” when it now comes to staying fit ? Is it playing ball on the black top ? Or playing baseball or some other sport ? It doesn’t actually have to be a sport mind you, to keep one’s body , mind and soul as one. I know that we all have our affinities with regard to certain avenues in terms of a sport or a recreational activity. So by all means chime on in with your thoughts on the subject matter. I‘ll look forward to reading your comment s as and when you‘re ready.

Truth In Advertising …………………..

Truth In Advertising

GM President & Chairman Ed Whitacre states that company has paid back their original loan from the government in full. Truth ? No not exactly as the company has only repaid in part the original investment . So far it has only repaid back $5 billion to the US Treasury Dept . However there is the matter of the other $56 billion that the US taxpayer is still owed . And that as of this moment in time the company is unable to say when that money will be repaid. What we do know at this moment in time is that US Canadian governments are the majority stakeholders in the automotive company . The two government’s combined holdings in the company amounts to 72 % of General Motors (GM) .

While President Barack Obama and Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner assures us that our investment in the company is safe . What they cannot tell us is when those monies will be returned to the taxpayer. Because the money owed , no one is absolutely sure when that sum will be repaid . Whitecre and the board of GM are looking to take the company public within the next two to five years and in that time the monies derived from the IPO (initial public offering ) will be used to “repay” the US Treasury . Do you get the feeling that the Obama administration , much like Whitacre and his board aren’t really sure in all likelihood when they will in fact will be able repay the monies owed ? The company through creative accounting still can’t turn an operating profit. And even now with a slight increase in volume sales there’s still no indication that the company is heading in the right direction and that it will indeed become profitable and going concern once again. It has been over a decade since the company turned an operating profit for a fiscal year.

At a time when Major League Baseball (MLB) is about to celebrate one of its most hallowed anniversaries. Instead the talk is of there still being ” racism” within the sport. This upcoming Saturday the game will celebrate the “63 rd anniversary” of the day that Jackie Robinson became the first African American to have donned a uniform in major professional team sport. The now famous Hall of Fame player suited up for the Brooklyn Dodgers under the then team general manager Branch Rickey .

Rehab , I Said No , No , No …… !

Rehab I Said No , No , No ……. !

At this moment in time I think it’s pretty fair to say that the public has become sick and tired of the antics of many of today’s high profiled athletes , celebrities and celeb wannabe’s ? Personally , I couldn’t give a rat’s ass about them just as long as they’re not espousing their lifestyle to the young and impressionable children !

<font face="andalus" size="3"> <b><i> Tiger Woods </i></b> inset amongst the montage of <u> "several of the women""</u> that the golfer is said to have bee involved with. </font>

Golfer Tiger Woods seen inset alongside several of the women that he was clandestinely involved in his extramarital affairs behind the back of his wife , Elin Nordegren . photo appears courtesy of Paris Match S.A @ ………..

We’ve seen the fallout from the Tiger Woods’ sexual “malaprop” and the fact the golfer has entered into rehab for his alleged sexual addiction ? I’d like to know how does this really work ………”.sexual addiction that is ” ? We all tend to “love sex” in one form or another and it’s a personal choice as to who “we” want have sex with ! That’s unless you happen to be a deviant who’ll prey on any victim one deems fit ? Ben Roethlisberger come down you’ve won the prize of “deviant of the of the Year” . Mind you , given the antics and the alleged notoriety of Sandra Bullock’s now “estranged husband” Jesse James and his antics. I don’t think it’d be that much of a stretch to have the triumvirate of James , Roethlisberger and Woods share the award !.

Roethlisberger has earned punishment

Early Monday evening, after the world learned he would not be prosecuted for sexual assault, Ben Roethlisberger appeared in front of his locker and issued a statement that made Tiger Woods look like a master of humility and introspection.

He didn’t mention his conduct or his drinking.

He said he was “truly sorry,” but not for what.

He said he wanted to be a leader and a “role model to kids,” but didn’t say how.

And, of course, he didn’t take any questions.

It wasn’t the kind of performance that helps a man reclaim his reputation. Even after a month-plus investigation resulted in no charges, there remain only three reasonable ways to consider Roethlisberger.

One, he’s a bad guy.

Two, he’s a bad guy when drunk.

Three — and this really strains credulity — he’s as dumb as he looks.

Whichever position you take, he still deserves to be suspended. I say two regular-season games. And it would be nice — not to mention useful — to see the Steelers themselves — read: those righteous Rooney heirs — mete out the punishment. If not, let that responsibility fall, as usual, to the NFL commissioner.

“We do not prosecute morals,” Fred Bright, district attorney for Georgia’s Ocmulgee judicial district, said Monday afternoon. “We prosecute crimes.”

It’s a good thing, too. But Roger Goodell’s NFL fancies itself much like a kosher hot dog, subject to loftier codes. From the 2009 Personal Conduct Policy:

“It is not enough simply to avoid being found guilty of a crime. … You are held to a higher standard and expected to conduct yourself in a way that is responsible, promotes the values upon which the league is based, and is lawful.

“Persons who fail to live up to this standard of conduct are guilty of conduct detrimental and subject to discipline.”

Hence, the DA’s decision not to prosecute Ben Roethlisberger for sexual assault isn’t cause for the black and gold to rejoice. There wasn’t much in the DA’s news conference that came as a surprise. No one acquainted with Roethlisberger via Google images would be shocked to find the Steelers’ team MVP with a young woman in what Bright termed the “small, dingy bathroom” of a college bar. The inquiry by local police and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation has produced a narrative that was basically everything you expected.

One the evening of March 4 and into the wee hours of March 5, Roethlisberger was out bar hopping with his entourage. The 20-year-old “victim” — Bright’s word, not mine — was doing with the same with her sorority sisters. The two parties met at various establishments along the way, where the quarterback and the co-ed made small talk.

“Some of a sexual nature,” Bright said.

Finally, at Capital City’s VIP room — not for nothing, but how many VIPs can there be in the metropolis of Milledgeville? — Roethlisberger summoned the sorority girls and “provided shots of alcohol.” Bright’s account fits nicely with an earlier report quoting the two-time Super Bowl winner as saying: “All you bitches, take my shots.”

“Everyone agrees,” Bright said, “that the victim was highly intoxicated.”

Again, I’m shocked.

Next, the prosecutor said, “one of the bodyguards guided the victim down a back hallway. Mr. Roethlisberger followed her down the hallway into a small bathroom.”

She sustained a “superficial laceration and slight bleeding in the genital area.” A test performed at the hospital indicated the presence of male DNA.

That’s not evidence of criminal conduct, or, rather, not nearly enough evidence to prove it. And so there’s no reason not to accept Bright’s representation — what happened in that dingy bathroom cannot be proven beyond a reasonable doubt.

However, the same cannot be said for Roethlisberger’s behavior. Under the Personal Conduct Policy, he can be disciplined for “conduct that undermines or puts at risk the integrity and reputation of the NFL, NFL clubs or NFL players.” Roethlisberger, who signed a $102 million contract in 2008, falls squarely in that unfortunate realm.

He’d have been better off in a standard-issue strip joint. Instead, the league has a two-time Super Bowl winner raising hell in a college town. Hustling sorority girls with tequila? And that bodyguard escort to the bathroom? Sorry, but the picture that emerges from all this is that of a sexual bully. All you bitches, take my shots! That’s the face of a franchise talking, and not just any franchise, but pious Art Rooney’s Steelers.

Roethlisberger’s escapades might not rise to the level of criminal conduct, but beyond any reasonable doubt, they injure the integrity and reputation of the NFL and its Pittsburgh franchise. What’s more, they are proof — again, beyond any doubt — of invincible stupidity. Remember, this is a guy who’s already being sued for alleged sexual assault in Nevada.

Over the weekend, the Steelers traded Santonio Holmes to the Jets, a Super Bowl MVP for a fifth-round pick. It was seen as a “statement,” proof Pittsburgh wouldn’t stand for recurring incidents of bad behavior among its players. Holmes, who had a domestic violence charge dropped a few years back, now seems like a recalcitrant pot smoker. His career with the Jets will begin with a mandatory four-game suspension, meaning he’s been caught violating the league’s substance abuse policy three previous times.

It’s worth noting Roethlisberger’s misdeeds were more widely covered, and therefore, as the league might argue, more injurious to its reputation. So you can’t help but ask: Is Holmes that much worse than Roethlisberger? Or is it just easier to replace a black receiver than a white franchise quarterback?

I’ll concede those aren’t entirely fair questions. But like the league’s conduct policy, they are rooted in perception. By the way, whose misdeeds have received more coverage? Perception is reputation. And reputation is more than a man’s deed. It’s what he has gotten away with.

On Monday afternoon, Steelers President Art Rooney II issued a statement, saying: “During the past few weeks, I have met with Ben on a number of occasions, not only to discuss this incident, but also to discuss his commitment to making sure something like this never happens again.”

A two-game suspension would be a good place to start.

Woods has been in rehab not long after the now infamous incident that took place on Thanksgiving Day’s eve of last year. James has now entered rehab in order to try and shake his “rocky marriage to the Oscar winner , Bullock. And with Roethlisberger now having “dodged a bullet” concerning the sexual assault allegations made against him by a young female co-ed student in the town of Milledgeville , Georgia. Is there anything left to say but to ask all three of these individuals what the fu_k are you doing with your lives ?

A somewhat subdued Ben Roethlisberger is seen here making a public statement that he's about to voluntarily enter the NFL's substance abuse program.

It is now being reported that Roethlisberger will voluntarily enter into the NFL’s substance abuse program for “alcohol abuse” . Given the player’s proclivity for insobriety and the mere fact that is the now “the third time “ that he’s ran afoul of the law. Why in hell’s name was he not made to enter the program after the first such alleged incident with regard to his run in with law enforcement in Lake Tahoe ? Alcohol it is also alleged played a part in that incident . Never mind the fact that the coaching staff and front office of the Pittsburgh Steelers have appeared to be as docile as a church mouse in now dealing with all three incidents concerning their Pro Bowl and Superbowl winning quarterback . You’d have thought that an alleged disciplinarian such as the Steelers’ coach Mike Tomlin might have and show “some balls” ? But I guess he has been emasculated by his players having won a Superbowl alongside them as their coach ?

One would now think that the NFL and the fact its image conscious commissioner Roger Goodell would on appearance want to be proactive in dealing with such incidents concerning the players and their off the field troubles ? But you’d be hard pressed to really see anything of that nature forthcoming from the commissioner. It were as if he were some “gilded lily” waiting to be watered in order for him to spring to life. If the truth be told the complete lack of action by the NFLPA is as equally disturbing ! And NFLPA Executive Director DeMaurice Smith has shown little if any resolve , in either making a public statement , much less gathering the executive members of his board together , to see how best to deal with this ongoing problem , in conjunction with the NFL .

For all “three individuals “ mentioned, the pain they’ve no doubt caused the immediate members of their families can’t be overlooked . But hopefully, the actions that they now each seek to take will in some way their attitude and give them a much more healthy respect of others and also for those said to be closest to them. Above all also , each has to stand and be held accountable for the actions and transgressions rather than trying to hide behind the facade of a lie. When “the lie” becomes a repeated effort to shy away from responsibility for one’s actions . In reality , it shows and says a great deal about that person and their complete lack of character and moral fiber !

I’m trying to figure out why it is that the Detroit Pistons’ fall from grace has been so rapid and startling ! The Eastern Conference team’s fall has been all the more surprising because in Joe Dumars, I was of the belief that he was one of the brighter and smart young executives within the NBA ! Unfortunately this hasn’t been borne out by the team’s record at present with their 25-53 record within the Central Division of the Eastern Conference. The division leading Cleveland Cavaliers – 61-17 has a commanding 36 game lead over the woefully inept Pistons !

Dumars a “two time” NBA champion and a member of the “infamous” Bad Boys’ team that reigned supreme over the NBA is the now the General Manager of the organization. And he has been instrumental as the architect of the team’s most recent win of the title in 2004 when they upset the Los Angeles Lakers in a rather easy 4-1 series’ win. The following year they would make a return trip to the NBA Finals where they would end up losing to the San Antonio Spurs in a hard fought 7 game series 4-3 . Between 2002 and 2008 it was a regular occurrence to see the Pistons make an appearance in the Eastern Conference Finals. During that period they made six consecutive appearances where they would end up winning two Eastern Conference Finals .Such was the team’s dominance during that stretch that it is hard to imagine how they could not have foreseen the danger signs. Rather than choosing to rebuild and nurture talent from within , Dumars chose instead to remain with an aging roster that had began to show >its age and fallibility.

One of the cornerstones of that success was Ben Wallace who was traded but has since returned to the team. No longer the defensive he once was but on certain nights you get to see a glimpse of what the player once was, when “he was at his very best”. But those are the nights that the fans yearn for a on a more consistent basis not just from Wallace but the entire team .

Today there are three remnants from the success of this earlier decade still on the team’s roster . And they are Richard Hamilton , Tayshaun and Wallace, himself. The team is coached by John Kuester , whose predecessor , Michael Curry , was abruptly fired by Dumars because of the team’s lackluster success and inconsistent performances of last season.

At the core of this team are the three aged veterans in Hamilton, Prince and Wallace. But now there’s a budding youth movement with a group led by Ben Gordon , Rodney Stuckey , Will Bynum , Austin Davis and DuJuan Summers . Dumars for his part , hopes that with that nucleus of young players mentioned the team is on the road to heading in the right direction. With just four games left on the team’s remaining schedule, one would hope to see the Pistons play with a great deal of resolve and a sense of pride . If Kuester and his coaching staff can get any semblance of that from the team then it would bode well for the future of this “storied club” .

As much as we’ve seen the decline of the Pistons . I wouldn’t count them out as being able to bounce back and become a contender once again within the upper echelons of the Eastern Conference. At the moment teams such as the Orlando Magic , Cleveland Cavaliers, Atlanta Hawks and to a lesser extent the Boston Celtics are riding high. But it only takes something fortuitous to happen by way of very good NBA draft pick and the fortunes of a team can seemingly change overnight. Does anyone seem to remember actually “how bad the Cavaliers were” before “the phenom” known as LeBron James rode into town and “took” not only the “city of Cleveland by storm” but also “the entire” NBA ?

This now might be as bad as it gets for the Detroit Pistons. In the future should things be turned around then it’s liable to get hot, extremely hot , as they look to contend not just against the might of the Eastern Conference but also against their counterparts in the Western Conference . And as I alluded to earlier , if they’re able get searing hot in terms of their play. Then the Palace of Auburn Hills could become a place where not too many teams will be able to withstand the heat. Because it’s going to be getting hot in there !

NB The gallery is in place is there to take your mind “off” the bleakness of the subject matter.
